SANTA FE DISTRICT

Santa Fe is the traditional city center of Bogotá. This area surrounds the historic La Candelaria district, of which it is a part. See my article on La Candelaria.

The small neighborhood of La Macarena, located within Santa Fe itself, stands out from the rest of the area. Indeed, it's one of the most charming spots in Bogotá. Moreover, the neighborhood is said to be quiet and bohemian, with cafes, art galleries, and excellent restaurants.

But outside of this area, SANTA FE has a bad reputation. During the day, the safest areas would be between Carretera 10 and Avenida Caracas (except for pick-pocketing). But at night, it is not recommended to walk there, especially tourists ...

The Cerro de Monserrate

This is the number one attraction to visit according to online reviews. This mountain overlooks Bogotá from its 3150-meter summit. To reach the top, you can take the funicular or the cable car. The view is said to be magnificent, offering a panorama of the entire city of Bogotá and its valley.

Torre colpatria

It is the tallest building in Bogota and one of the tallest in South America. It is located in El Centro. You can go to the panoramic terrace on the roof of the building on Saturdays and Sundays.

National Museum

It is the oldest museum in the country and one of the oldest in Latin America. Built in 1823, the fortress is made of stones and bricks. The museum houses a collection of over 20 pieces including works of art and objects representing different periods of Colombian national history.

Bogota Museum of Modern Art (MamBo)

Interesting museum for its contemporary works: drawing, painting, engraving, sculpture and assemblages.
