Are you planning a road trip to Greece and looking for a fun itinerary to visit Greece in 2 weeks? Here is my 15-day road trip in Greece that we did in a camper van and which might inspire you to create your own.
I share here with you, step by step, the organization of my 2-week tour in Greece: Choice of the crossing, tourist stages, seaside stages, islands and development of my itinerary with attached Google Map.
Road trip in Greece by motorhome
What is the best way to make a road trip in Greece: Plane + car, car from the start, plane + motorhome or motorhome from the start?
I asked myself these questions because according to what I had read on the Internet, the campervan seemed ideal and economical for visiting Greece. Yes, I knew that traveling in a camper van means traveling in complete freedom, but I was able to see that it is much more than that!
In fact, the main advantage of motorhomes in Greece is being able to “land” as close as possible to the tourist sites and the most beautiful beaches. Not only do we save time, but we camp in simply sublime locations with views that would make the biggest Palaces in the world jealous. Polynesia !!!
Another cool thing about traveling in a motorhome is that you don't necessarily need to book your accommodation at each stage of the road trip.
Thus, we were able to travel at our own pace, without stressing because we slept anywhere, wherever we wanted (when possible). Otherwise, we went to campsites and even camping in Greece, it was great!
How to go to Greece by motorhome?
To reach Greece by road, 2 solutions were available to me:
- Travel all the way from France via the Balkans (Croatia, Albania, Slovenia, Serbia, Bulgaria);
- Travel to Italy to take a ferry to Greece and do my 15-day road trip.
I chose the 2nd solution because it is the fastest and the least tiring. Yes, but to go to Greece from Italy, there are several ports and several options.
The most practical and economical to do my tour was to leave the port of Ancona in Italy for a arrival in Igoumenitza and combine a return from the port of Patras in Greece.
For the ferry company I chose Minoan Lines because the trip was cheaper than with Anek Line.
Road trip in Greece - What to see in 15 days?
After consulting a lot of blogs and reading a few travel stories on forums, I quickly realized that 2 weeks would not be enough to visit the whole of Greece. And even less to discover all the Greek islands. And as I did not want to devote my entire road trip to ancient sites, I concocted an itinerary that would make me enjoy:
- typical small villages,
- Meteora,
- from the Peloponnese region,
- some must-see sites,
- 2 beautiful little islands,
- without forgetting the beautiful beaches!
Itinerary of my 15-day road trip in Greece
Here are the main stages of my 2-week road trip itinerary:
- Igoumenitsa (port of arrival)
- Meteors
- Milopotamos Beach
- Volos for crossing to the Island of Skiathos (setting of the film Mamamia)
- Athens (just passing)
- Epidaurus
- Hermioni for crossing to the island of Idra

15-day road trip in Greece - My program
Here is the summary of my 2 week road trip in Greece:
Road trip in Greece - Day 1
After a crossing of almost 28 hours, we arrive in Igoumenitsa at 17:20 p.m. and take the road towards Kalambaka to visit the Meteora site the next morning. We arrive there after 3 hours of travel and settle in at the campsite.
Road trip in Greece - Day 2
After the whole day of visits to very atypical monasteries, we stay there to spend the night. Indeed, it is the next morning very early that we take the road to the Milopotamos Beach.
Road trip in Greece - Day 3
After a 3 hour drive, we finally arrived at the dream beach. And because my road trip is also my vacation, I reserved the whole day to enjoy a little relaxation and sun.
At the end of the afternoon, we take the wheel for 1h30 of journey. Indeed, it is necessary to go to Volos in the evening to be able to board the Ferry for the Island of Skiathos the next day at 7:45 a.m.
Road trip in Greece - Day 4
It is aboard the Express Pegasus (transport ferry of the Hellenic Seaways Company) that we will travel for 2h30 to arrive at the island of Skiathos.
Arrived at 10:15 am, we go directly to the only campsite on the island (very simple but super nice) to settle there for 4 nights.
Skiathos - Days 5-6-7
Skiathos is considered one of the most beautiful islands of the Sporades. It is a nature reserve whose beauty comes from its vegetation and its beaches. Indeed, there are more than 60 beaches on the island and each one more beautiful than the next.
Close your eyes and imagine a golden sandy beach with turquoise and green blue waters set against a backdrop of a wild Mediterranean landscape preserved from mass tourism!
Even if you can do sightseeing in Skiathos (Chora and its whitewashed alleys, Byzantine Monastery of the Virgin of Kounistras, ruins ...), I must admit that it is for its beaches that I had decided to spend 4 days on this island.
Greece by motorhome - Day 8
It was at 14:15 p.m. that we boarded the ferry to return to Volos. Then we head towards Cape Sounion. Indeed, I had planned to visit Athens but because of Covid, I preferred to skip this stage because there were too many people in the middle of the tourist season. We just went to Cape Sounion. This cape which juts into the Aegean Sea constitutes the end of Attica. We went there mainly to admire the magnificent temple dedicated to Poseidon.
Then we take the road for about 2h30 of journey which takes us to the east of the Peloponnese region. We will get to Epidaurus in the evening.
Greece by motorhome - Day 9
The archaeological site ofEpidaurus and more particularly its theater is an unmissable ancient Greek site. It is one of the most visited sites in Greece.
We spend the morning there (the weather is not nice) and leave in the afternoon towards Hermione (1 hour drive). We will spend the night there because the next day we will make a short crossing to the island of Hydra.
Greece by motorhome - Day 10
We leave the camper van in the parking lot to go and spend the day in Hydra. From Hermione, it only takes 30 minutes by boat to reach Hydra Island.
This small island is very pretty but very very busy! Its particularity is that all motor vehicles are prohibited there. Suddenly, it is the donkeys that are used to move or transport goods.
Greece by motorhome - Days 11 and 12
The day after visiting Hydra, we drive 2 hours to Nafplio.
Nafplio is the city of love for the Greeks but above all it is a spectacular citadel, medieval ruins, a pretty old town and a very nice little port. Enough to spend 2 days visiting there!
Greece by motorhome - Day 13
For the 13th day of my road trip in Greece, we start by driving about 2 hours towards Mistra.
Mistra or Mystras is an ancient city of Morea founded by the Franks in the 13th century. It was listed as a UNESCO heritage in 1989.
We visit the fortress and its ramparts, the Despot's palace, monasteries and churches.
Greece by motorhome - Day 14
You can't go to Greece without visiting Olympia ! For the 14th day of my road trip in Greece, we are going to visit a must-see site in Greece. From Mistra, it takes 4 hours by road.
Known for being the cradle of the Olympic Games almost 3000 years ago, Olympia is an ancient site remarkable for the quantity and quality of the remains.
Greece by motorhome - Day 15
Patras is the last stop on my 2-week road trip in Greece. Indeed, it is from the port of Patras that we take the ferry back to Ancona in Italy.
But if you have a little time before boarding, there are some very pretty places to discover like the ruins of the ancient Castle of Patras.
Rent a motorhome to go to Greece
On the same principle as Airbnb rentals, I recommend the Yescapa platform.
It is the leader in the rental of motorhomes and vans between individuals. It is a secure and economical way to rent a motorhome. The choice is important and the rentals well supervised and insured (payment on the site via a secure area).

Hello,
Thank you for this valuable information which will help me prepare our next trip to Greece.
Good continuation.
With great pleasure! Feel free to post your comments when you return. Have a good trip!
Thank you for this lovely trip, we have been here for 5 weeks and it is still as great, it is Dommangeau because Athens is worth the detour and there is a great campsite, the Athens campsite and the owner speaks French
Hello,
The return via Patras was done by the same company? I cannot find a departure from Patras on this line.
Thanks for this article!
Yes, it was with the same company but it's been a few years now. The routes may have changed since then.
I wish you an excellent trip.
What a beautiful report… thank you, it’s inspiring, and it really makes you want to do it. Question: if you only speak French, is it easy?
Hello Nadine,
The Greeks are very welcoming and friendly. We have happened to go to restaurants where the menu was not in English and where the waiter spoke neither French nor English. But we always managed to make ourselves understood.
In addition, with the Google translate app, you can manage to book a ferry or a campsite.
Have a good day !
Hvor er “Herre” hvor du var etter Nafplion? Kan du skrive navnet på gresk? Jeg finner det ikke.
Takk!
Jeg tror du snakker om den lille byen Hermione: Ερμιόνη…
Look at the link to Google Maps, look at the geografiske betegnelsene alley.
God forberedelse og ha en god dag.
Can i please ask if you can share some details like how much does camping in a campsite cost? It is not easy to find those online. We plan to travel this summer, we are a family of 7. Thanks a lot
It is difficult to give you the prices of campsites in Greece because I did not keep the tickets. I can tell you that they are much cheaper than in France or Spain. Sometimes less well equipped but with a great welcome! I wish you happy holidays!
