Canal du Midi by bike from Toulouse to Castelnaudary

This first section represents 54 kilometers by bike along the Canal du Midi in its part located in the Department of Haute Garonne.

The starting point of the route is from Toulouse, my hometown. Take the opportunity to arrive a day before for visit Toulouse. The route will take you through small villages in Lauragais, landscapes of plains and agricultural hills.

Do not miss the village of Avignonet-Lauragais, the Mecca of Catharism. You will pass through Port Lauragais and the threshold of Naurouse. It is the site of the watershed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

The route then takes you to Castelnaudary, a small town renowned for its famous cassoulet. If you have a little time, take a detour to the Abbaye de Saint-Papoul.

Here are the tourist stops, villages, locks, restaurants, campsites of the section of the Canal du Midi from Toulouse to Castelnaudary:

  1. Hello,
I wanted to thank you for the detailed information that you make available to us. They helped me a lot to organize my trip. I have just covered the canal in 3 days, and I followed your suggested stages: Toulouse – Bram – Le Somail – Sète. A little intense, but very pleasant! Thanks again for all your advice!
    cordially

Hello, I want to cycle the Canal du Midi by bike.
For you, to do a 100 kilometer course, which stage do you recommend?
For the beauty of the landscapes the places to see
En vous remerciant pour votre réponse
    And for your site

    1. Hello,
The most beautiful route in my opinion is to leave Carcassonne to reach Sète. But this route is 160 km long. The advantage is that you can discover the city of Carcasonne, the village of Somail and the natural landscapes of the Etang de Thau. See the route on https://www.francevelotourisme.com/le-canal-du-midi-a-velo

    1. Hello,
