Which coast should I choose for my stay in Martinique? This is the 1rd question that I asked myself when I decided to treat myself with my husband for a short week on this little gem of the Antilles.
Mount Pelée, the tropical forest, the steep mountains, the jagged cliffs, the heavenly beaches with dream lagoons. Martinique had always made me dream! Unlike the majority of French people who go there in winter, we went there on a whim in the middle of August, knowing very well that we could experience some beautiful tropical storms. But when the desire is there…
As always, before booking my hotel, I did some research to answer the questions: Which coast should I choose for my ideal stay in Martinique? Where are the most beautiful beaches in Martinique? Where is the best place to stay in Martinique? What are the most beautiful places, the wildest, calmest, most authentic coasts of Martinique?
Thus, I was able to choose my hotel on the most beautiful coast of Martinique according to my criteria. I'll let you discover it below but let you know now that my choice turned out to be relevant!
Which coast in Martinique?
This West Indian island owes its beauty in part to the great variety of its reliefs and natural landscapes. Side reliefs, to keep it simple, I will schematize by dividing Martinique into 2 parts: The north and the south.

The north of the island
The north of Martinique is the most remote part of the island with its mountains, its volcanic massifs, its immense banana plantations and its beautiful pineapple plantations. The tropical forest and mountain ranges, notably Montagne Pelée, are landscapes that attract tourists who love nature, extreme sports and treks.
The North Atlantic coast
The North Atlantic coast is located in the northeast of the Island. It is also called “windward coast”. It is a coast where the ocean is unleashed with tumultuous waves which assault the steep and volcanic reliefs. As its nickname indicates, it is a coast where the wind reigns supreme in wild and wild nature.
The northern Caribbean coast
Unlike the east of northern Martinique, the beaches of the North Caribbean Coast (located to the west) are calmer. A succession of small bays with calm, clear waters follow one another between pretty little fishing villages.
The south of the island
The south of Martinique has a flatter terrain with its hills, its famous hills and its magnificent bays and superb beaches.

The southern Caribbean coast
The southern Caribbean coast is located southwest of Martinique. It benefits from the calm blue waters of the Caribbean Sea which offer a panorama of white sand beaches with coconut trees and turquoise waters. From Trois-Ilets to Anses d'Arlet, from Rocher du Diamant to Salines beach, the South Caribbean is paradise for tourists looking for heavenly beaches.

The South Atlantic coast
The south Atlantic coast located to the southeast of Martinique includes Le Vauclin, the Caravelle Peninsula, Sainte-Anne, Saint-François. This coast is bordered by turquoise waters and protected by a barrier Reef with amazing white backgrounds. This is where the famous Joséphine's Bath is located in François Bay and the many small islets of Robert. This coast is less touristy than the south Caribbean coast and therefore calmer and quieter.
You may have understood, it is on this beautiful coast of Martinique that I chose my hotel (see at the end of the article)!

Best coast in Martinique: Le François on the south east coast
Located in the east of the island, facing the Atlantic Ocean, Le François is a town surrounded by sugar cane plantations and banana plantations. Its main tourist asset is its shallow bay which is protected by a coral reef on white sand bottoms (Josephine's bath) and which faces 8 magnificent small islets.
Le François is therefore an ideal place for lovers of heavenly beaches and tourists looking to relax in peace and in an atmosphere where the sweetness of life is the priority.

After having found the most beautiful coast of Martinique for a relaxing stay, it was more complicated to find a hotel that met my requirements and desires. In fact, I absolutely wanted to find a hotel on a beautiful beach in a nice setting. Of course it had to be comfortable, clean and have a good restaurant.
Le François - Hotel Le Cap Est Lagoon Resort & Spa
Here is the hotel that met my expectations and that I therefore recommended with my eyes closed: Le Cap Est Lagoon Resort & Spa
In a tropical garden setting, facing a magnificent beach, we spent a week in a relaxed, calm and restful atmosphere. Due to lack of funds, we did not have the chance to take advantage of the suites with private swimming pool, but our room was very pleasant because it was spacious and well decorated. The breakfasts were varied and delicious!
The only criticism I could make of this hotel was that it was a little dated and a little facelift wouldn't have done any harm. Otherwise everything was perfect! Especially its geographical location because I had studied the place well and I was really not disappointed!
However, I have been sent comments about this hotel which are not that complimentary. So, I prefer to recommend another hotel in Martinique but located in Sainte Luce:
