Tour of Scotland in 15 days

With 900 km of road on site (excluding France-Scotland route), this road trip in Scotland is long in distances for a circuit of only 15 days.
Indeed, Scotland is a very jagged country with lakes, mountains, very wild coasts and you have to take roads bypassing certain points to reach a tourist stopover. In addition, journeys take time because the roads are narrow, winding and lost in wilderness.
This is why it is better to organize theroute in advance so as not to get lost, to optimize time and to be able to go through the unmissable places in just 2 weeks. This is what we managed to do with this tour of scotland Complete enough.

Scotland itinerary in 15 days – The advantages of this road trip

When I designed this circuit, I absolutely wanted to do a tour of Scotland in 15 days via Edinburgh et Glasgow. Positioning these two cities at the start and end of the circuit, made the trip more balanced since the Cultural Tours were not concentrated in a single period or a single location.

It was perfect to start with Edinburgh to have a 1er overview of the Scots, their customs, culture and history. And it was great to end at Glasgow to take advantage of its many museums, good restaurants and shopping just before returning to France.

This 15 day itinerary in Scotland allows you to climb up to Highlands (region that I loved), to discover Isle of Sky and its wild beauty, to admire Magnificent Loch, to go through splendid national parks without forgetting to visit the many castles et distilleries.

Obviously, the loch ness lake is a must-see in Scotland had to be part of my tour. But I have to admit that it is not the most beautiful or the most interesting place in Scotland.

This itinerary for a tour of Scotland seemed perfect to us because it allowed us to discover all the facets of Scotland and the Scots: Breathtaking landscapes, majestic castles, passion for whiskey, golf, pubs, discovery of an incredible fauna (sea birds , seals…) and to taste various and varied flavors (seafood, smoked meats, fudges…).

But what I will remember above all from the Scots is the warm welcome that they have reserved for us throughout this tour. Scottish are really nice people. They open their hearts to you from the first meeting and offer you anything that could make you happy.

And the Bed and Breakfast accommodation greatly promote contact with the Scots. Stay with the locals will remain one of the best experiences of my tour in Scotland. Also, it is much cheaper than going to a hotel. This is why, outside the cities, we have favored this type of accommodation which has much more charm and friendliness!

See my article: Cheap accommodation in Scotland to have the list of our hotels and BandB of all stages of my itinerary.

Scotland itinerary in 15 days – Disadvantages of this road trip

This route was entirely satisfactory for the sightseeing tours and contact with locals. However, we must recognize a few small flaws:

  • The gasoline budget is substantial;
  • Travel times are quite long;
  • Le tour of scotland is not complete (it would have taken us 2 months to do so !!!)

In conclusion, I would say that this 15 day itinerary in Scotland was the most optimized and the profitable to satisfy my desire for Scotland even if it was a little expensive.
