How to visit Lake Titicaca?

Lake TITICACA excursion in 1 day

Many agencies or hotels in Puno will offer you a day trip. The program is as follows:

You leave Puno to visit the floating islands of Uros entirely built of Totoras reeds.

Then you take the boat back to taquile, an island preserved from the modernity of the continent. The locals, called Taquileños, still wear traditional clothing and are known for their high quality handicrafts and the art of knitting.

Then you have lunch on taquile and go back to Puno in the middle of the afternoon.

It was directly at our hotel that I booked the 2 days excursion to Lake Titicaca.

For 30 Euros all inclusive, a bus came to pick us up at the hotel for the following program:

  • he dropped us off at the pier where we were to leave by boat with a tour guide for the UROS floating islands,
  • then we took the boat back to theAMANTANI island with excursion to mount PACHATATA ;
  • lunch, dinner and overnight at the inhabitant on theAMANTANI island ;
  • then we take the boat back to theisland of TAQUILE with hiking and guided tours;
  • lunch on theIsland of TAQUILE ;
  • and finally, return by boat to FIST in the afternoon of the 2nd day.

I chose this option to get a broader idea of these famous islands.

  1. hello thank you very much for all the info and this wonderful blog
    Could you tell me if there are any excursions in french for lake titicaca thank you for your answer

    1. Hello Alain,
      Classic excursions sold in agencies and hotels are in Spanish and English. For excursions in French, I think you have to look for an agency that offers you a private tour. Perhaps Thomas Montaigne can give you some information. You can contact him directly by email from me: t.montaigne@wanadoo.fr

    for 30 euros, the meals were all included?
    Homestay was it good? (What's special to bring besides our personal effects? Water? I don't think there is water or electricity?

    1. Hello Michelle,
      I would say that for the majority of tourists, staying with locals on Amantani went very well!
      But not for us, you can find out by reading the article: DAY 8 LAKE TITICACA.
      For logistics, you have to leave your large backpacks or suitcases at your hotel in Puno and only take a small backpack with the minimum for 1 night. It is good to also bring small gifts for the family knowing that they prefer food products such as oil, rice, flour, pasta, cookies ... And since there is no water or electricity in the rooms, you should also bring pocket lamps, water bottles and wipes for the toilet!
