You should know that the accommodation budget is the most important budget of my 3-week trip to Tahiti (after that of flights and transport). So if there is one item where we can reduce expenses, it is necessarily that of hotels! But that doesn't mean you shouldn't have fun ...
Cheap Tahiti hotel - When to book?
As I knew that hotels and other accommodation are very, very expensive in Tahiti and in all the islands and atolls of Polynesia, I booked all the hotels for my tour well in advance. So I had more choice in terms of availability and I was able to select the cheapest accommodation and hotels in the Archipelago. Indeed, the cheap hotels in Tahiti are those which are the fastest complete.
Thus, for my tour which was scheduled for the month of October 2015, I had taken my plane tickets at the beginning of January 2015 and booked all my hotels at the beginning of February as soon as I had finalized the detailed program.
Cheap Tahiti hotel - How to choose them?
For my search forcheap hotel in Tahiti and in all the islands of Polynesia of my circuit, I tried to privilege first of all good locations, minimum comfort, air conditioning, WIFI and bathroom facilities in the room.
As usual, for my reservations for hotels, campsites or pensions, I go through the Booking platform. Indeed, it is the largest in the world and therefore the one that brings together the mostcheap hotel deals.
In addition, booking with Booking allows you to modify or cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before! So no hesitation in booking more than 6 months in advance.

Here are the destinations of my tour in Polynesia for which I looked for 20 nights of accommodation, pensions, or cheap hotels:
- Papeete 1 night - Day 1
- Moorea 1 night - Day 2
- Huahine 4 nights - Days 3 to 7
- Raiatea 3 nights - Days 7 to 10
- Bora Bora 3 nights - Days 10 to 13
- Maupiti 3 nights - Days 13 to 16
- Tahiti 1 night - Day 16
- Fakarava 3 nights - Days 17 to 20
- Papeete 1 night - Day 20
Here below are my good cheap hotel plans for these Polynesian islands with my appreciations and my comments:
Cheap Tahiti hotel - Papeete 3 nights - Days 1-16-20
Let's be clear, for the 3 nights in Tahiti, I did not look for the great location on the edge of a dream beach. No, because the most beautiful beaches in Polynesia are not found on the Island of Tahiti. This is why for these “stopover” nights in Tahiti, I preferred to take a cheap hotel because not close to a beautiful beach.
So I booked the guesthouse on Fare Switzerland Tahiti. This accommodation turned out to be a very good plan because for 79 Euros per night, we took advantage of a clean, air-conditioned, comfortable room with bathroom and Wifi (but average). In addition, it is easy to park nearby and for free.
The location was perfect as it was a short drive from the Ferry terminal (convenient to Moorea), a 10 minute walk to the center of Papeete (convenient to eat at the Roulottes) and a 5 minute walk to a supermarket. In addition, there is parking and we were able to arrange a shuttle to the airport (free).

Cheap hotel Moorea 1 night - Day 2
Here is the best value for money that I could find on Moorea: Pension Motu Iti.
Obviously, it's a pension and therefore not a Palace but it is located 10 minutes walk from the famous Hilton Moorea Lagoon therefore on one of the most beautiful coasts of Moorea between Cook's and Opunohu's berries!
In addition, some bungalows are facing the beach with a terrace "feet in the water"!
Ce cheap accommodation in Moorea (88 € per night) allows you to start enjoying a beautiful turquoise lagoon before the following ones which will be even more fabulous!

Cheap hotel Huahine 4 nights - Days 3 to 7
On Huahine Island, beach hotels are very expensive. So I opted for a pension including in the price of the night a rental car.
It's here Pension Tipanier which offers this very advantageous formula at 145 Euros per night (house + car rental).
For our 4 nights, this accommodation was perfect because it was very spacious, well equipped, with swimming pool and 5 minutes from the beach. The little extra: top-notch breakfasts!

On the other hand, before opting for Pension Tipanier, I had hesitated for a long time with cheap accommodation, a Unusual Airbnb for Robinson Crusoe living !!!
Cheap hotel Raiatea 3 nights - Days 7 to 10
It's hard to find a good hotel in Raiatea that faces a beautiful lagoon and fits within my very tight budget ... I had to make concessions on WiFi but I found the rare pearl: the Fare Oviri Lodge à 70 € per night in a shed.
I loved the environment surrounded by nature, quiet and with direct access to the beach located on a beautiful lagoon. We were able to see sharks, rays and a multitude of exotic fish.

Cheap hotel Bora Bora 3 nights - Days 10 to 13
For Bora Bora, I had decided to really indulge myself. Without spending 400 or 500 Euros a night, I was able to take advantage ofone of the most beautiful beaches in Bora Bora : Matira Beach.
This is Temanuata village directly on the beach of Matira point that I stayed 3 nights for 479 €. It's not cheap, but it's 3 times cheaper than for an overwater bungalow in other hotels…
Magnificent lagoon, adorable staff, restaurants and multiple activities nearby and the possibility of cooking meals in the accommodation (grocery store next door).

Cheap hotel Maupiti 3 nights - Days 13 to 16
Here is my favorite: Maupiti Residence. When we arrived and discovered the site, I thought it was just the most beautiful place on earth (I had not yet been to Fakarava).
Directly on Tereia beach on a dream lagoon, the bungalow was spacious, clean and it had wifi !!! We spent 3 days in paradise.
As it is a super good plan (90 € per night), this pension is taken by storm by smart and informed tourists ... No booking platform, you have to call them directly to find out if there is availability: +689 40 67 82 61 or +689 40 30 22 01.
Cheap hotel Fakarava 3 nights - Days 17 to 20
To make robinsons crusoes at the end of the world, you have to stay at the Pension Raimiti south of Fakarava Atoll. Far from the luxurious beaches of Bora Bora, it is the authenticity that we find here in a postcard setting.
We lived there the experience of cabin facing the lagoon and I must say that getting up in the morning with such a spectacle is exceptional and unforgettable!
Considering the privilege of being able to stay in such a beautiful place and so close to the locals, I must say that the 210 Euros that we paid in half board is not an exorbitant sum… Especially that the meals were really up to par (catch of the day, lobsters, raw fish…).

The total budget (even with cheap hotels) came to almost € 2 for 500 nights in Polynesia.
Cheap Tahiti or Airbnb hotel?
Before selecting my hotels, I obviously looked for cheap accommodation on Airbnb. But the Airbnbs that interested me (cheap and well placed for my tour) were rare and were not available because they were already booked for my dates.
