Tour Scotland in 15 days - Isle of Skye tour under the mist

Dreaming, smelling, living the Isle of Skye ...

I knew that it is rare to find sun on this island but I did not expect to encounter so much fog in the middle of the day and in the middle of August! Our first contact is therefore under a thick, humid and invasive mist that freezes us from head to toe.

As much to say to you that it was out of the question to engage in a hike!

We therefore decide to follow the coast from South to North via the A87, stopping quickly to take advantage of the main points of view and take some photos.

First stop at the small Sligachan Old Bridge.

We then crossed the island via the B884 road to reach another unmissable viewpoint (the westernmost point of the island): Neist Point. The site is superb, and the lighthouse looks like it's lost at the ends of the earth…

It's noon, and I had saved the Red Roof Café as a must-try restaurant . So, in a place seemingly in the middle of nowhere, lost in a wild and almost hostile landscape, we find this tiny restaurant. We sampled organic products and traditional charcuterie. The desserts (enormous slices) were delicious.

Then we headed towards Portree to travel up the coast and reach the famous Old Man of Storr . The fog was so thick that visibility was limited to 5 meters. In an incredibly mysterious and intimidating atmosphere, we made out and discerned the shapes of this mythical rock.

A little disappointed by the bad weather, we returned to Portree to spend the night.

Isle of Skye - Where to sleep?

Accommodation is scarce and quite expensive on the Isle of Skye . Fortunately, at 150 Euros a night, the hotel we booked was pretty decent.

Just 10 minutes from the center of Portree, Le Creagory Skye boasts a lovely location and offers beautiful, simple, spacious, and clean rooms. The added bonuses? The kindness of the owners and the breakfast, which gave us a boost and put a smile on our faces to start the morning, despite the usual gloom…
