Route Salento Medellin - Cheap Hotel Medellin - D9

How To Go From Salento To Medellin ? Here is our day dedicated to Trajet by the road of the coffee region in Medellin.

Salento - Medellin directions

Salento Medellin journey by car

We could have taken the plane but we prefer the car to see the landscapes pass and change before our eyes from kilometers to kilometers. And there again, we took plenty of gneux gneux!

The road, which is quite good, crosses among other fields of pineapple and sugar cane plantations. The trip will last 8 hours but we will not be bored!

Moreover, our nice driver Alberto, will stop on the side of the road to offer us a whole pineapple for everyone to taste at 10:00 am. It was a real treat, the real taste of the fruit explodes our taste buds.

And a few tens of kilometers further, it is to buy panela that we stop again. With the juice of cane sugar which cooks until obtaining a caramel, the Colombians make breads “Panelas”. They then use it to make sweet “dulce” products (nougats, caramels, cookies…) but especially for the local drink: el agua de panela. They mix a little of this panela with very cold water and add lemon and ice cubes.

Cheap hotel in Medellin - Guest House Poblado Manila

What I liked about this Guest House

  • Its geographical location because it is located right next to the neighborhood EL POBLADO ;
  • The fact that it is an apartment because we stayed there 3 nights and I was able to do laundry because it has a washing machine !!! ;
  • The terrace with a view on which we ate and ate all our breakfasts;
  • The cleanliness of the rooms;
  • Its very attractive price compared to hotels in the same district: 21 Euros per night.

What I didn't like about this Guest House

  • The fact that the common areas are very old and poorly maintained;
  • The lack of dishes (the other occupants taking the bowls in their rooms…).

  1. Good morning,
Thank you thousand!

    1. Hello,
      No, questo tratto non è affatto pericoloso, le strade sono buone. Non è bello come nelle Ande alte, ma è più easy.

  2. Hello and thank you for this nice blog.
    I would have liked to know the price (approximate) of this route salento / medellin with driver?
    What if you had the flexibility to make the stops you wanted?
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hello,
      Difficult to give you a price for the Saleno-Medellin journey because we had taken a package from Pierre Verger (Colombia Infinita) which included several very long journeys and a few guides on site. In addition, our package included the round trip Cartagena Mucura.
      For the stops, yes: we had complete freedom to request the stops we wanted.

  3. Hello,
    thank you for sharing your trip in a pleasant and documented site ...
    we already met on voyageforum, my question would you have kept in touch with your nice driver Alberto?
    because we are also looking for a salento driver in the garden!
    and hop, I keep reading the rest of the trip 😉

    1. Hello,
      No unfortunately I only have his name: ALBERTO CARDONA and it seems to me that he is from Armenia.
      It was the COLOMBIA INFINITA agency that made it available to us.
      You can therefore ask Pierre VERGER.
      Good preparation
