We had decided to devote this 9th day to the discovery of the ubud city by taking our time and taking advantage of a lean program ...
UBUD discovery day program
Monkey forest - Restaurant Melting Wok - Ubud Market - shopping - Dinner at Ibu Rai.
MONKEY FOREST IN UBUD
From our hotel we go on foot (15 minutes walk from our hotel) to the Monkey Forest that we visit very quietly in 2 hours. There is only one species of monkeys: crab-eating macaques.
There are a lot of tourists but as the forest is large, the walk is still very pleasant. I think that when you get to the opening (8:30 am), it must be deserted and suddenly more interesting… but maybe the monkeys are still sleeping at that time!
Regardless, this place is very nice and fun! Be careful not to take any bag, food or water bottle because monkeys are thieves and are attracted to anything they can catch.
If you want the souvenir photo, you can buy a banana for 5 RP (about 000 cents of Euros) and hold it over your head so that a monkey will sit on your shoulder to taste the fruit on your head. .
Price: 50 RP or approximately 000 Euros
TAKE A LOOK AT THE VIDEO: PLAYING MONKEYS
At noon, we come back to eat at the Melting Wok Warung (I had booked the day before…).
UBUD MARKET
In the afternoon, swimming pool, UBUD market and shopping… A relaxing day that we particularly enjoyed!
Le UBUD market worth the trip for its atmosphere and colors. But for my taste it is too touristy and therefore not at all authentic! In fact, in the street, we only meet Westerners. It is the place where we have the least possibility to negotiate the prices and they are on average higher than the rest of Indonesia. So a word of advice, go ahead but don't buy!
UBUD is the city to go shopping. The stores are very, very numerous and there is something for all budgets. Silver jewelry is very affordable and quite original. There are also beautiful ceramic decorative objects (handcrafted in Bali, see photo below).
In addition, on the rue du market in ubud, many local agencies offer excursions to the other islands of JAVA cf. photo below. So next time, head to UBUD to enjoy it a little more but especially to leave there for other islands and other adventures.
Dinner at IBU RAI restaurant in UBUD
In the evening, I had reserved a restaurant in an exceptional setting 2 minutes from our hotel: IBU RAI. Indeed, this restaurant is located in the middle of a temple, it is divinely well decorated and offers elaborate, creative dishes, with exotic flavors and skilfully mixed ... In short, another very nice address at UBUD for a budget of around 15 Euros the meal (including drinks, main course and dessert).
