According to the last Numbeo ranking, we can say that Cebu is not a safe city. Indeed, its crime index is quite high: 51.52 even if it is much lower than that of Manila.

Cebu City is the 7th most crime-ridden city in all of Southeast Asia. She is more dangerous than Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket, Denpasar, Siem Reap ou Luang Prabang.

When we compare to world level (see map below), Cebu is in 129th position out of the 334 most crime-ridden cities in the world. According to this ranking, Cebu is more criminal than Cairo, Istanbul, , Edmonton, Denver ou Bombay.

Red Light Districts in Cebu

We cannot call them dangerous, but the red light districts of Cebu are areas to avoid, especially at night. There are several like the neighborhood Kamagayan particularly on the Junquera Street and the Mango Avenue in the Carreta district.

Safe neighborhoods to stay when visiting Cebu City

Cebu City is not the best place on the island to stay (noise, pollution, traffic).

But if you want to discover its heritage, the Santo Nino basilica, the Cebu heritage monument, the Taoist temple and its lively markets, you will have to stay there for 1 or 2 days.

The historic district called San Roque is the place which concentrates the most tourist attractions and entertainment. There is no problem visiting it during the day, but in the evening it can be noisy and uncrowded.

If you are looking for a safer area, you can choose your hotel in the Luz district or in the Ayala district right next door.
