Traveling to Koh Samui without a car is entirely possible and even highly recommended!

First, it allows you to focus on exploring the island at your own pace, without worrying about driving or parking.

But most importantly, Koh Samui is relatively small, with one main road that runs around the island (about 50km). This means that most tourist attractions are easily accessible using the means of transport mentioned below. Additionally, most hotels also offer shuttle services to major tourist sites, making it even easier to get around without a car.

Moreover, public transportation and taxi services are very affordable. They allow you to easily move from one place quickly and to another at a lower cost.

How to visit Koh Samui without a car?

Koh Samui offers a variety of transportation options that allow visitors to explore the island comfortably without the need for a car.

Whether by Songthaew, taxi, mobile app or public bus, each option is designed to make exploring this Thailand paradise island.

• songthaews : Songthaews (shared vans) are one of the most popular forms of transportation on Koh Samui. These vehicles operate like minibuses and operate on fixed routes around the island. They are not only economical (with fares typically ranging from 20 to 60 baht), but also easily accessible to almost every corner of the island.
• Taxis : Taxis are also available, although their fares may be higher than those of songthaews. It is advisable to agree on a price before starting the journey, as few taxis use meters. Rides can cost between 300 and 700 baht depending on the distance.
• Transportation applications : Apps like NaviGo Samui offer a modern alternative to booking rides. This app allows users to get fair and transparent fares, often lower than traditional taxis, while still providing a secure service.
• Motorcycle taxi : For faster travel, motorcycle taxis are a popular option. These drivers, often identifiable by their orange vests, offer a flexible and fast service for short trips around the island.
• Public bus : A public bus service has recently been introduced, connecting the airport to the island's main points of interest. These buses run every hour and cost around 100 baht per trip.

Koh Samui Tours for Travelers Without a Car

Many agencies offer day trips to visit Koh Samui's main attractions and surrounding islands :

• Koh Samui Guided Tour : This 4-hour tour takes you to the island's main sites, including the 12-metre tall Golden Buddha, Wat Laem Suwannaram Temple, Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks, and Namuang Waterfalls.
