This is what we see on the Numbeo world ranking 2024 where Cuba is among the least criminal countries in the world. Its crime index is very low and it is only for Havana its capital.
Varadero dangerous for tourists?
NO !
Unlike Havana for which the French, British or Canadian governments recommend travelers to be vigilant, Varadero is not a dangerous area for tourists.
It is even a preferred destination for those looking for beautiful beaches. Indeed, the pandemic has been terrible for tourism in Cuba, especially after the embargo measures that were imposed by former President Donald Trump. Cubans need tourists and do everything to welcome them as best as possible and in good conditions.
Neighborhoods to avoid in Varadero?
The city of Varadero itself has a population of just over 6. This small Cuban town covers the peninsula of Hicacos. It is a safe zone, without violence and without insecurity. So there are no neighborhoods to avoid in Varadero in particular.

Where to stay in Varadero?
The seaside resort of Varadero is spread over a peninsula about twenty kilometers long surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.
Where to stay in Varadero: Varadero Hotel Zone
This whole area includes beautiful and large beaches with white sand and turquoise water. It is therefore along the entire length that the hotel zone of Varadero is located. You will find huge hotel complexes that offer all-inclusive formulas for all budgets.
Unlike the eastern end (where the Varahicacos Reserve is located) which is more remote, the hotel zone makes it easy to get to the convention center, the various hotels and to the center of Varadero in a few minutes.
