Walking tour to visit Monaco

Here is the route on Google maps of the circuit which allows you to visit Monaco on foot:

Visit Monaco in 1 day - Program

The best way to do my tour is to park near the hyper center. All car parks are very expensive in Monaco in high season. The cheapest is the Parking Saint Antoine which is well placed for a walking tour.

My circuit to visit Monaco in 1 day represents 6,4 kilometers of walking and is divided into 2 parts:

  • Morning itinerary : from the Roseraie Princesse Grace to the Rocher de Monaco (3,2 kilometers or about 49 minutes walk).
  • Afternoon Itinerary : from the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco to Lavartto beach (3,2 kilometers or about 49 minutes walk).

Your morning visits to Monaco

The Princess Grace Rose Garden

To start my little walking tour, without making a real visit, a short stroll in the heart of the Fontvieille landscaped park is nice to discover the Princess Grace Rose Garden (4 roses over 000 m5).

Exotic garden

A 26-minute walk away, botanical enthusiasts will appreciate a quick visit to the exotic garden of Monaco. Many species from all continents are organized for your viewing pleasure.

Rock of Monaco

The Rocher de Monaco is the old town district at the top of the Rocher.

We visit:

  • Place Saint Nicolas,
  • Bosio Square,
  • the Chapel of Mercy,
  • courthouse,
  • Cathedral,
Visit Monaco in 1 day stopover at the Cathedral
  • and of course the Palace!

Princely palace

This is the must visit in Monaco! This magnificent monument is in fact the official residence of the Prince of Monaco and has been since 1297.

Stopover at the Prince's Palace in my tour of Monaco in 1 day

To visit the Prince's Palace, I recommend that you be there by 11:55 am precisely. Indeed, it is at this time that the changing of the Carabinieri Guard takes place every day.

Your afternoon visits to Monaco

Oceanographic Museum

After your lunch, my tour takes you a 5-minute walk: to the Oceanographic Museum. With its 90 pools, its 6 species and its shark lagoon, it is a surprising and interesting visit for everyone (young and old).

Monte-Carlo Casino

After the oceanographic museum, you will have to walk about half an hour to discover a majestic Belle Epoque monument: the famous Monte-Carlo Casino. Currently, it is open every day from 12 p.m. to 18:30 p.m.

what to visit in Monaco in 1 day: the casino

Japanese garden

Only 700 meters from the Casino, we arrive at the Japanese Garden. If you have time, I recommend that you go and spend at least half an hour there. Indeed, it was made by a Japanese landscape architect who made it a true work of art.

The champions promenade

Following my route, you will pass by The Champions promenade. This is a seafront promenade where the most famous football players from around the world have left their footprints (Diego Armando Maradona, Pelé, Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane). It will take you to the beach 500 meters further.

Larvotto Beach

And to end this day of sightseeing in style, I suggest you relax on the one and only beach in Monaco: the legendary Larvotto beach.

Where to sleep to visit Monaco on foot?

For a successful weekend in Monaco and to be able to visit everything on foot, you need to experience the Hermitage hotel. Indeed, you will stay in a sumptuous Belle Epoque palace classified as a historic monument!

Its location is perfect as it is just 200 meters from the Casino de Monte-Carlo.

So if you want to really treat yourself, don't hesitate to choose this beautiful place!

HOTEL HERMITAGE IDEAL FOR A WEEKEND IN MONACO

Cheap hotel in Monaco

Everyone knows: there is no cheap hotel in Monaco. On the other hand, 4 km from Monaco, I found a nugget: Edmond's Hotel Restaurant.

It is located in Cap-d'Ail and has excellent value for money: 107 € per night!

It has an ideal location because it is very close to the beach and the Cap d'Ail train station.

The big advantage is that you can take the bus at the foot of the hotel that takes you directly to Monaco! As a result, you save the price of parking when you visit Monaco in 1 day.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing. The circuit looks very cool. It seems to me that the “More options” link in the map that is supposed to allow GPS tracking does not work. Is it possible to recover the journey in another way? Thank you so much!

    1. Hello Marion,
I just checked and the Google Maps route opens fine by clicking on More options. In fact, you then have to click on Preview and follow the circuit step by step.
      Bonne journée.

    1. Hello,
I recommend that you do the circuit in the intended direction. Indeed, it is more fun to go to the beach in the afternoon.
But to start the circuit at the Roseraie, I advise you to take bus n° 4 in the direction of Fontvieille center Commercial at the Louis Aureglia station. You will get off at the Honore II stop right next to the Roseraie. You have all the Monaco bus lines and timetables on the site https://www.cam.mc/me-deplacer
      Enjoy!

  2. Thank you very much for your tour!!
It really helped us, we took the bus twice (2 children 2 and 9 years old), not in the same order as you.
I really validate to park in the St Antoine car park, just at the entrance to Monaco.
    Very nice day of visit

    1. Many thanks for your comment. I am delighted that you enjoyed your visit to Monaco. I wish you lots of new tourist discoveries! Have a good day.

  3. Hello, I will arrive directly at Monte Carlo. I am afraid that I am wasting time by starting according to your plan. What do you recommend ?

    1. Hello,
Given Monte Carlo is a district of Monaco located further north compared to my walking tour, I advise you to do my tour in the opposite direction.
      Have a good stay !
