Soon visiting or traveling to Turin in the North of Italy and want to identify the neighborhoods to avoid, the red light districts and the best places to stay.
Even if Turin does not have as bad a reputation as Palermo ou Naples, the question arises whether in Turin there are dangerous places for tourists?
To answer your questions, I offer you below a guide to the districts of Turin with a Google Maps map to locate them. Thus, you can choose where to stay among the best neighborhoods and avoid the sensitive areas of Turin.
Turin dangerous city?
Turin is not among the safest cities in Europe as Madrid, Prague, Amsterdam ou Lisbon.
If we take into account the Numbeo ranking of the 168 most criminal cities in Europe, Turin ranks at the top of the table with a crime index of 50.64 which is quite high. In 33rd position, Turin would therefore be a more dangerous city than Palermo, Venice ou Milan but, in comparison, less dangerous than Rome., Athens, London ou Paris.

On the other hand, it should be known that this type of classification is established only on the feeling and the opinions of the Net surfers. It does not take into account any official figures.
But other media also inform that Turin is not a very safe city. For example, on the site okdaily, Turin is ranked as the 3rd most dangerous city in Europe. And, according to the newspaper The Sole24Ore, the city of Turin would occupy the 4th place in the ranking of the most dangerous cities in Italy.
Turin dangerous for tourists?
No, but on condition that tourists remain cautious. Indeed, unlike Rio de Janeiro or to Mexico, tourists can visit Turin without risk (apart from thefts and scams as in all tourist places).
In fact, in Turin, violent crimes and offenses are mainly linked to illegal trafficking and do not directly concern tourists. If tourists don't venture into certain neighborhoods (see below), then no problem discovering this magnificent city!
Neighborhoods to avoid in the center of Turin
Turin has 8 large areas (circoscrizione) which group together 94 statistical areas which are themselves divided into 34 districts (see on Wikipedia).
To identify the neighborhoods to avoid in Turin, here is the map that allows you to locate them: Google Maps
Let's start with the center of Turin. It's quite surprising but there are areas to avoid at night in the Centro district according to the Italian media (see for example: Torino crime map: the Center is the red zone).
These areas to avoid in the center of Turin situate :
- Around via Cavour, via Po, Piazza Carlo Felice and the part between the Po river and Porta Nuova station. See location of this area
- along the way Corso Julius Caesar
- Around Porta Palazzo
Dangerous neighborhoods in Turin
Without being neighborhoods where tourists would risk their lives, there are however neighborhoods in Turin to avoid for their insecurity. See on Torino Fan which informs about the testimonies of the inhabitants of certain disreputable districts of Turin.
According to the majority of media on the Web, here are the reputedly dangerous areas of Turin:
- Barrier of Milan
- Valletta
- scythe
- Aurora
- Valdocco
- mirafiori
- Borgo Victoria (but this district would not in fact be dangerous, see at the bottom of the page the commentary of an Italian who lives in this district precisely).
Red Light District in Turin
Without really being a district dedicated to adult entertainment, the San Salvario district has always been one of the hottest areas of the city. However, with its trendy bars and nightlife, this area has become trendy. But for those traveling with family, it may be recommended to avoid this area at night.
Best neighborhoods to stay in Turin
In Turin you will find many picturesque, safe and pleasant neighborhoods in which to stay:

But, as each district has its own identity, atmosphere and centers of interest, it is impossible to present them all to you.
So, I will only tell you the 2 most popular districts of tourists:
- the most chic district of Turin,
- the most touristic district of Turin.
Neighborhood where to stay in Turin for a chic stay
The Crocetta district is considered the most chic district of Turin.
Crocetta district in Turin
Located a little south of downtown Turin, it is in this beautiful district that you will find the most elegant streets of the city with luxury boutiques, art galleries, trendy bars and good restaurants.
Check location of the Crocetta district Be careful, however, to avoid the area after Porta Nuova station, which is one of the areas to avoid in Turin.
It is in this upscale district of Turin that you will find the most beautiful hotels and palaces in the city.
Here is a hotel that I recommend for its location and quality services:

Neighborhood where to stay in Turin to visit
To be as close as possible to the most visited sites in Turin, I recommend that you stay in the heart of the historic center. See location of the historic district
Centro Storico in Turin
In terms of security, overall it is a safe area except beyond Corso Regina Margherita and around Porta Palazzo.
Where to stay in the centro storico of Turin?
Here is an accommodation ideally located in the historic center of Turin. Indeed, it is less than 500 meters from the following tourist attractions:

A greeting
Confirm as soon as you enter Borgo Vittoria.
Aggiungerei also che San Donato is a safe neighborhood, it was there from 2006 to 2012 and it was safe all the time, but still more peaceful.
Aurora, in the best zone of the Palazzo and Balcony Gate, is peaceful (tranne Lungo Dora Napoli, in certain tratti è bruttino). Therefore, if it goes back to the part that is confined to the Barriera di Milano, if it is rich in quality.
Thanks again and have a nice day.
Do not hesitate to note and follow the instructions below.
