Sanremo, with its festival, mild climate, sunny beaches and festive atmosphere, attracts thousands of visitors every year.
However, as with any tourist destination, there are areas where caution is advised.
In this article, I will tell you which areas to avoid in Sanremo and which ones to favor for a peaceful and hassle-free tourist stay.

Is Sanremo safe for tourists in 2025?
During the day you can walk around in peace, as the security level is high during the day. However, it is advisable to be more careful at night, especially in certain areas (see list below).
In fact, the crime rate in Sanremo is quite high, with a crime index of On 56.59 100. In addition, insecurity has been increasing sharply for 3 years.
This places the city in a higher risk category than some other Italian destinations such as Bologna, Palermo, Genoa ou Turin.
Areas and neighborhoods to avoid in Sanremo
According to the press, internet publications and forums, there is no area of Sanremo indicated as very dangerous for tourists during the day.
However, here are the areas to avoid in Sanremo at night as they present security problems:
- Nightlife areas such as the Bresca Square, Via Gioberti, Via Gaudio upper and lower.
- Via Martiri della Libertà : residents report a state of disrepair and significant danger, with frequent fights and the presence of drunk people.
- Station area : Although not specific to San Remo, areas near train stations are less safe in Italian cities.
- La Pigna : Although it is a place of historical interest, some tourists have described it as an area to avoid at night due to the presence of suspicious people and behavioral problems. See on tripadvisor.it
Safest areas to stay in Sanremo
- Saint Martin walk : This residential area located in the east of the city is very calm and peaceful (luxurious villas, large green spaces, quiet atmosphere, panoramic view, proximity to tourist attractions).
- Mouth : Located right next to Matuzia Beach, this area is popular among water sports enthusiasts and sightseeing. It includes Villa Matuzia and Villa della Foce, as well as bars and restaurants along the beach.
- Porto Vecchio district : This area is very central and is within walking distance of several beaches, including Spiaggia dei Porti. It is also a lively area with many restaurants, shops and cafes.

Recommended hotel for a seaside stay
For a seaside stay in a safe area of Sanremo, I recommend the Royal Hotel Sanremo.
Indeed, this establishment offers several advantages for a relaxing seaside vacation:
- Ideal location : The Royal Hotel Sanremo is located on Corso Imperatrice, an elegant palm-lined promenade that runs along the coast. This privileged location allows easy access to the beach while being 750 meters from the center in a quiet and safe area. In addition, it is very close to historical monuments such as the Basilica Concattedrale di San Siro (0,6 km) and the Forte Santa Tecla (0,8 km).
- High-end facilities : The hotel has excellent facilities (swimming pool with sea view, spa, tennis court)
- Refined atmosphere : This establishment stands out for its chic atmosphere and elegant architecture, offering a refined setting for a luxury seaside holiday.

And, for a cheap seaside stay in Sanremo, I recommend theHotel Villa Levi, also located in a safe neighborhood:
