One of the attractions not to be missed when going to Lorient is the one present at the submarine base. It's about visiting the submarine Flora and its museum interactive which is open to the public. After the end of its use by the French Navy, the Submarine Base in Lorient has become a must-see for all those interested in navigation, its history and the iconic submarine named Flore-S645.

La Flore has been in active service since 1964 even if we can trace the end of its construction to December 21, 1960. This military submarine was used until 1989, being very imposing: 58 m long, with 5 m of high and 7 m wide. La Flore had the capacity to submerge itself up to 300 meters for various operations, including those of nautical surveillance.

It was also very fast and able to cover 320 nautical miles. The machine was therefore impressive and it reflects to this day all the greatness of the French naval forces.

Today, La Flore has become an interactive museum and everyone is allowed to visit the different sections of this large boat, once passing through Lorient. The museum is actually one of the cells that previously served to house submarines and send them into the water.

The place has been transformed by Lorient Agglomeration so as to welcome all the curious and to retrace the history of the submariners, of the city which hosted the Base as well as the history of the S645 Flora itself.

Inside the interactive Museum of Flora, you will be able to see several of the original pieces that were in the submarines of the time, as well as testimonies to listen to and many other elements that attest to what this military technology was. major.
