After the beautiful King's Highway , I had planned two full days at the magnificent site of Petra for December 30th and 31st! Here's the story of our first day . It consisted of visiting Petra in one day, following a long loop that allowed us to see the most beautiful sites. Very tiring, but absolutely fantastic!
How to visit Petra?
No need to get drunk with long explanations on the history of Petra, I'll leave that to the experts, the local guides or the Routard guide ...
No, I will simply explain to you how we managed to discover most of the "pink city" in 1 day.
It was a local guide on site who gave us the map of Petra in English (it's the most detailed) and who advised us on a first loop to do on the 1st day and another circuit for the 2nd day (which I will detail in the following article: Petra in 2 days – My 2nd day circuit ).
Petra in 1 day - Our Grande Petra tour
Here is the loop that took us the whole day (7am to 17pm). We took all our time to make the most of the sites, take breaks, take photos, have a snack… In short, a pretty cool pace to complete this trail which, despite everything, is very tiring!
This loop trail passes through the Siq and then continues along the High Place of Sacrifice Trail (thin orange line on the map). Access to this trail is via a path that climbs to the left near the restrooms just past the Treasury and before reaching the Theatre. After reaching the High Place of Sacrifice , descend and take a path on the right (not shown on the map) that leads up to the Monastery . Then descend again to rejoin the main trail (long red line on the map) to return to the Siq.

Petra in 1 day - Treasure and wonders
For our first day of sightseeing, we started with, of course, Petra's most famous monument: the Treasury of Al-Khazneh . It appeared to us in a dazzling and moving way at the end of the siq.
Throughout this trail, we will pass by paths, we will climb more than 900 steps and will pass by small very steep paths ...
The wonders of Petra parade throughout this trail with dozens of facades of tombs, temples and burial rooms carved out of the rock and breathtaking landscapes!
And great encounters ...
After this long day, we return tired to our hotel which oh happiness !!! is 150 m from the entrance to the site! When your legs are full of them, it's really a comfort that I really appreciated.
