After beautiful route of the Kings, I had scheduled (for December 30 and 31) 2 full days on the large site of Petra! here is the story of our 1st day. This consisted in visiting Petra in 1 day with a long loop that allows you to see the most beautiful sites in 1 day. Very tiring but on top!
How to visit Petra?
No need to get drunk with long explanations on the history of Petra, I'll leave that to the experts, the local guides or the Routard guide ...
No, I will simply explain to you how we managed to discover most of the "pink city" in 1 day.
It was a local guide on the spot who gave us the map of Petra in English (it is the most detailed) and who advised us on a 1st loop to do on the 1st day and another circuit for the 2nd day (which I will detail in the following article: Petra in 2 days - My 2nd day tour).
Petra in 1 day - Our Grande Petra tour
Here is the loop that took us the whole day (7am to 17pm). We took all our time to make the most of the sites, take breaks, take photos, have a snack… In short, a pretty cool pace to complete this trail which, despite everything, is very tiring!
This loop circuit passes through the as then continue with the " high place of sacrifice trail »(Traced in orange on the map). This trail is accessed by a path which climbs to the left at the level of the toilet point just after the Trésor and before arriving at the Theater. After reaching the high place of sacrifice, you have to go back down and take a path on the right not traced on the map which goes up to Monastery. Then we go down to join the classic main trail (Main trail: long red line on the map) to return to the as.

Petra in 1 day - Treasure and wonders
For our 1st day of visit, we started with, of course, the most famous monument of Petra: the Al-Khazneh Treasure. He appeared to us in a dazzling and moving way at the end of the siq.
Throughout this trail, we will pass by paths, we will climb more than 900 steps and will pass by small very steep paths ...
The wonders of Petra parade throughout this trail with dozens of facades of tombs, temples and burial rooms carved out of the rock and breathtaking landscapes!

After this long day, we return tired to our hotel which oh happiness !!! is 150 m from the entrance to the site! When your legs are full of them, it's really a comfort that I really appreciated.
