Here is some practical information for organizing a 15-day tour in Indonesia. These are the questions I asked myself when I organized this beautiful trip in 2017.

Ijen Volcano, a must-see stop in a 3-week itinerary in Indonesia

What time to choose to go to Indonesia?

Having a tropical climate for the Java and Bali part, the "dry" season extends from May to October / November. However, even in the dry season, it can rain at the end of the day. About the GILI part, no problem choosing because the weather is nice and dry all year round! I will therefore choose to leave from October 2 to 17, 2017 (15 nights) - intermediate period between the dry season and the rainy season - interesting because fewer people on the sites and more interesting prices. FYI, we just had a rainy day at Ubud (1 in 15 is still not bad!).

What to visit in Indonesia in 15 days?

Then, I selected the regions and monuments to visit. Difficult choice for theIndonesia because there are so many sites that it is necessary to manage to choose only the essential and the most interesting without falling into the classic circuits of the tour operators. However, we had to avoid wanting at all costs to visit all the temples, all the waterfalls, all the markets… So, I tried to find the nature-temples-relaxation compromise that will allow us to enjoy the place and not be 100 per hour all the time!

15-day tour in Indonesia – What transport?

Pprice of flights to Indonesia

Then we had to think about the modes of transport. For flights, I chose a TOULOUSE-AMSTERDAM-JAKARTA for the outward and return DENPASAR-AMSTERDAM-TOULOUSE with KLM for a total of 766 Euros. It is impossible to combine these same flights on the Internet at reasonable prices (the outward journey being different from the return). So I asked Leclerc Voyage who perfectly met my requirements for 40 Euros agency fees. This agency was able to combine us with a domestic flight JAKARTA - YOGYAKARTA. The total thefts amounted to 806 Euros. Sometimes it is interesting to compare the Internet prices with those of a travel agency classic ...

Otherwise, when there is no particular problem, for my reservations on the Internet, I usually go through the comparator Skyscanner.

French-speaking driver and guide in Indonesia

As the distances between the different sites are very far apart and require Organisation complicated logistics for 5 people, I opted for booking a comfortable and air-conditioned mini-bus with English-speaking driver and French-speaking guide. But this option only concerns part of the trip (8 full days). Its total all-inclusive cost (transport, insurance, gasoline, driver and guide) per day and per person is 36 €.

15-day tour in Indonesia – Which guide?

See my detailed article: Local guide in INDONESIA

To find a local guide, I consulted blogs and contacted 5 French speaking guides directly by email. The discussions were long and numerous because they all offered me different circuits and prices ...

Finally, I chose Muhammad Firdaus through another guide who simply outsourced the service. And I can say that we were very lucky. Indeed, it corresponded exactly to what we expected and I am happy to recommend it ...

Here are the contact details of our friendly guide who called himself Daus. It is perfect for those who want anecdotes, general and interesting information and who seek to avoid long historical narratives with 10 unpronounceable dates and names that you never remember. In addition, Daus is very available, smiling and endearing! He was able to modify our initial program when necessary to provide us with opportunities to fully immerse ourselves in life and culture in his country (see the Java National Dance Festival below).
