Why the East coast and the South East coast of Mauritius?
You hesitate ... because you do not know the different coasts of Mauritius and don't know where to choose your hotel?
It is undoubtedly on these coasts that you will discover more authentic, wild, typical places with small fishing villages and still wild nature.
You will find below the characteristics of this long coast, its beaches and the main tourist sites. So you can decide whether or not it is worth choosing your hotel in this place of Mauritius.
No noise, no madness, no frenzy… for little ant, authenticity will be his paradise!
EAST AND SOUTH EAST COAST MAURITIUS - The beaches
De very beautiful beaches are found in the East and South-East of the Island. The best known are those of Beautiful Mare (which some say is the most beautiful beach in Mauritius) and of Blue Bay a little further south. But you will find many others less known but worth the detour.
North of the east coast, you will find the beaches of Black Rocks et Lafayette station with the bay of Bras d'Eau. Very popular public beaches, they are pleasant in summer because they benefit from a small wind which comes from the South and which makes it possible to better withstand the great heat ...
Mauritians love to relax there on weekends and public holidays and it is therefore a family and typical atmosphere that we find more particularly on these beaches.
Beautiful Mare
The beach of Beautiful Mare is quite simply one of the largest and in my opinion one of the most beautiful in theMauritius ! White sand, turquoise lagoon, you can swim there with pleasure and you can also enjoy a still preserved coral reef ...
During weekends and holidays, Mauritians flock, so it's ideal to meet the locals, chat with them and discover their culture.
Little Ant knows that discovering a country is above all making friends!
Fresh water hole
Trou d'eau frais is located a few kilometers south of Belle Mare. It is a beautiful lagoon with a magnificent white sand beach swept by the trade winds.
But what attracts tourists is that this lagoon is home to a gem just a few kilometers offshore from its beaches: Cerfs Island.
Ile aux Cerfs
What does Ile aux Cerfs look like?
This small uninhabited islet is one of the most beautiful sites on the island.
Little ant was more than seduced oh yes… Little ant was dazzled!
But since it's not just a little ant that loves this place, be careful: it's crowded! I therefore advise you to go there early in the morning in order to walk around it quietly and take beautiful photos without anyone on them (as I was able to do it myself) ...

How to get to Ile aux Cerfs?
The simplest and cheapest solution is to take a water taxi which shuttles between Trou d'Eau Douce and theDeer Island every 20 minutes from 9 a.m. Thus, you will be free to explore the site at your own pace.

For a discovery ofDeer Island by sea, you can book a catamaran or pirate ship excursion! You can find agencies for departures from Trou d'eau frais or Blue Bay.
Most of the boat trips will stop at Grande Rivière Sud-Est and include in the price a PMT dive (Palme Masque Tuba pour les uncultées 😆) in the lagoon, a good barbecue and drinks.
Blue Bay
Let's continue further south. Are you looking for an emerald sea with a fine sandy beach? Blue Bay is the place to go with its postcard decor ...
But Blue Bay is also famous for its corals and its marine park which is classified and therefore protected ... It is undoubtedly a superb diving spot but simple masks and snorkels are enough to admire the still living corals and fish of all colors ...
The Ile des Deux Cocos is very close and deserves, if you have the time, the detour.
MAURITIUS EAST AND SOUTH EAST COAST - What to see?
Flacq
It is one of the largest villages in theMauritius. Every Wednesday and Sunday there is a beautiful, large and very popular open air market. Very colorful and lively, it is located a few meters from the court.
To smell, taste, discover, it is at the market that little ant likes to embalm its future memories ...
Bras d'Eau National Park
It is a nature reserve of around 500 hectares located in the northeast of Mauritius, on the coast near Poste Lafayette. It is made up of state lands, a large body of water called Mare Sarcelle, a multitude of ponds and a beautiful forest.
In this forest, there is a site set up for picnics with wooden tables.
You have to go there to walk there because, and it is very practical, there are marked hiking trails.
Very easy to get there from Flacq. You just need to take a taxi to the entrance of the park (10 to 15 minutes by car).
Great South-East River
It is a site that you can visit by taking a sea excursion. You go up the estuary to the mouth of the longest river on the island where there is a beautiful waterfall.
Amber Island
You have to go there for its lagoons but especially for its mangroves. You can choose the kayak or negotiate with a local fisherman to bring you there with his boat or take an excursion with an agency on site.
Mahébourg
It is the largest city on the southeast coast. Located on the edge of a lagoon, it is also the closest city to the only airport in the country.
You can go there for its market which is held on Mondays and which the Mauritians call "the fair". You will be able to immerse yourself a little in the daily life of Mauritians and will be able to buy spices, souvenirs, basketwork… It is much cheaper than in Port-Louis.
COTE EST ILE MAURICE - Where to eat?
So that its taste buds feast, little ant prefers to eat local!
As usual, I'm not going to recommend a large restaurant, but the small restaurant in Maryse's house. It is simple and good and inexpensive Mauritian cuisine. Depending on the morning catch, you will be offered different seafood products. We really liked the rum with prunes, raisins and the chicken in coconut milk.
AT MARYSE 230 5 978 8211 Pointe d'Esny (next to the Blue Bay police station)

EAST AND SOUTH EAST COAST MAURITIUS - Best hotel?
Before booking the RIU MORNE (in the South-West of the Island), I had, as usual, prospected and researched the best hotels in Mauritius according to the coasts. Here is the one I spotted for the EST part: the Shandrani Beachcomber.
When little ant wants luxury at all costs, she will sleep at the superb Shandrani!
Well located on the south-east coast of Mauritius, Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa is the luxury address for stays in all-inclusive. This 5-star hotel is located on the Marine Park of Blue Bay, on a private peninsula facing the nature reserve of Ile aux Aigrettes. Thus, it has three private beaches of fine sand facing a dream lagoon.
Golf course on more than 50 hectares, Kids Club dedicated to children from 3 to 12 years old, wide free choice of nautical activities, Spa, diving center, sailing club ... it is impossible to list all the advantages and amenities of this complex!
In addition, customer comments on Booking and TripAdvisor are more telling. Indeed, they qualify it as wonderful, excellent, exceptional, magnificent, dream holiday...
This is why I will say quite simply that it is the BEST HOTEL on the East Coast of Mauritius.
How to describe Paradise? Little ant don't know
but she is sure he can be here!
