1 day excursion to Tayrona Park – Beaches – Koguis de Tayrona – D14

Finally, we will visit Tayrona Park ! It was one of the places that made me dream the most when I was preparing my tour ... If you want to know how our day was organized, thisow to get from Santa Marta to Tayrona Park, what are the beaches to see, how see the Tayrona Park Koguis… This is how our day trip to Tayrona Park.

How to get from Santa Marta to Tayrona Park?

We take the santa marta bus for about 1 hour journey and we arrive at the main entrance of the park (El Zaino entrance) at 8:30 am. There are not too many people and the queue is not that long… While waiting at the ticket office, videos are played in a loop to indicate the instructions for visits, prohibited things and other information about the park . Please note, it is mandatory to present your passport. So don't forget it, otherwise it's back to square one: Santa Marta!

As soon as we got our bracelet, we take a van to drop us off 4 km further. But for the brave, this part can be done on foot.

Treck in Tayrona Park

From there, it's the classic one-day tour: We start fromEl Zaino entrance, we see 3 beaches while walking 2h30, we stop at the beach El Cabo San Juan de Guia, we have lunch there and we go back for 2h30 of walking. The return must be around 14:30 p.m. because the park closes at 15:00 p.m.

So don't waste time ...

We start this hike under a blazing sun, well motivated to take less than 2h30 to be able to swim as quickly as possible!

This hike – because it is far from being a trek – presents no difficulty. It is almost flat everywhere and the path is quite wide and well made. The only difficulty is the heat! It’s stifling, we’re dripping with sweat and we can’t stop drinking.

The beaches of Tayrona Park

The beaches of Tayrona Park - Arrecifes

This is the first beach we reach. It is wild, very agitated and swimming is prohibited there.

We don't stop there and just take a few photos.ARRECIFES BEACH PARC TAYRONA

The beaches of Tayrona Park - La piscina

Here is the 1st beach in which it is possible to swim. The sea is calm because it is protected by rocks. The beach is large and beautiful!

The beaches of Tayrona Park - Plage del Cabo San Juan del Guia

We finally get there after 2 hours of brisk walking. It was our Holy Grail and we thought about it during the hike to motivate ourselves ...

On arrival, we are not really disappointed:

TAYRONA Park - superb beach

BEACH THE SWIMMING POOL PARC TAYRONA

On site there is a restaurant and I advise you to book as soon as you arrive because it is quickly full.

The other beaches of Tayrona Park

They are numerous but impossible to go there by the classic one-day circuit.

Some are accessible by boat (lancha) from Santa Marta, others by the other entrance to the park. The best plan would be to stay at least 2 days in the Park to see a little more (possibility of camping in the park).

What do we see in the park apart from the beaches?

Nature, still nature and still nature! But what a nature !!!

The place is simply incredible, forest, mangrove, fields of palm trees, monkeys, colonies of giant ants, hummingbirds ...

The Koguis of Tayrona Park

A community of Kogis Indians lives inside the park. We will not have the chance to go to their village Pueblito but we were able to meet some. We bought them orange juice prepared on site and we were able to chat a little with them.

These natives are the descendants of the Tayronas, a pre-Columbian tribe that no longer exists today. The Kogis, who number only a few thousand, live far from civilization in the Sierra Nevada mountains. They lead a simple but very spiritual life and are respectful of the nature that nourishes them.

We were very happy to have met them but are worried and a little sad that tourism invades their lands ...

And if you want to continue discovering my circuit, here is my favorite: THE CIENAGA GRANDE DE MAGDALENA !
