How to go from Bogota to the Tatacoa desert?
By comparing prices and transport times, we prefer to choose to make this trip with a private driver, leaving very early and thus be able to enjoy the afternoon on site.
Our trip BOGOTA - VILLAVIEJA in private transport
7:00 am: We leave Bogota with Carlos our private driver in an air-conditioned and spacious van for 6 hours of driving.
The big problem is getting out of Bogota. Indeed, the capital has neither metro nor tram, suddenly, there are a lot of buses which circulate in all directions… and which form, with the many other vehicles, endless traffic jams.
We will take almost 1 hour to get out of the city!
On the way, we have time to admire the landscape and observe the diversity of crops in the HUILA region: sorghum, cassava, sugar cane, rice, cotton, corn and fruits.
CHEAP DESERT TATACOA HOTEL
At the very beginning of the afternoon, we arrive in Villavieja where I booked a hotel via Booking that I chose of course for its proximity to the Tatacoa Desert ! We will stay 2 nights at the Colonial Hotel where we were received like royalty.
What I liked about the COLONIAL hotel
- The welcome, kindness and availability of the staff;
- The coffee we are offered on demand;
- The inner courtyard where we had very good breakfasts;
- The calm and the restful side of this place;
- The hummingbird ballet in the hotel courtyard!
What I would have liked at the COLONIAL hotel
- With the heat that it was, obviously a swimming pool would have been appreciated… But with the rate of the night at 38 Euros, one does not have the right to complain!
