Are you planning your next vacation in Corsica and you don't know how to choose your campsite? Well, I too was in the same situation last June when I was planning my week-long stay in the Isle of Beauty.
Indeed, as I don't like to trust the famous “special camping” guides or the various rankings on the Internet which are often the result of hidden remunerations, I preferred to take the time to do my own research.
In this article, I will therefore share my experience and explain the steps that allowed me to make the right choice when booking my campsite in South Corsica.
Why choose camping in Corsica?
Why choose to spend 1 week camping in Corsica? Well, as in this month of June, I wanted to enjoy the sun, the nature, to be able to have lunch outside with the song of the birds and especially to have the “feet in the water”… it was out of sight. question of locking me in an apartment or a hotel room!
Where to choose your campsite in Corsica ?
This is the question that made me hesitate the most: Choosing a campsite in North Corsica or South Corsica ?
In fact, the CapCorse is wilder and perhaps has more pristine landscapes than Southern Corsica (Agriates desert, Monte Cinto, Bastani and Nino lakes, forests, etc.). It is ideal for those who want to go on hikes or treks, to discover unspoiled sites and off the beaten track.
But for my little one-week getaway, I preferred to get closer to tourist sites like Bonifacio, the Lavezzi Islands, most beautiful beaches in Corsica, Alta Rocca and Aiguilles de Bavella.
And suddenly, I chose to camping in the south of Corsica.
What camping in the South of Corsica?
Before comparing the different campsites in southern Corsica, I started by eliminating all those that absolutely did not suit me because I wanted above all to avoid:
- Stay in a noisy place,
- Put up with too much promiscuity (I hate being stuck with my neighbors),
- To be too far from the beach.
So I looked for "holiday village" style campsites and found on Homair a good compromise which would allow me to be in peace, a little withdrawn in nature while being very close to the beach.
In addition, Homair offers campsites ranging from 3 to 5 stars and which perfectly meet my following selection criteria:
The comfort of accommodation in a mobile home
And yes, if I make concessions on a road trip because we arrive late at night and leave at dawn, on the other hand when I go for a stay, I look for comfort above all!
And when I speak of comfort, I necessarily include a nice setting, good equipment, a pretty terrace with deckchair to enjoy good naps, a good bed with a quality mattress, air conditioning (essential in summer) and an excellent WIRELESS !!! This is exactly what I was able to find in the 4 star campsite which I will describe to you below.
Top-notch services and equipment
The most important point for me will be the campsite restaurant ! It must offer fresh products and varied dishes. Suffice to say that I rule out all the campsites that only have a fastfood or a pizzeria! Without requiring the gastro restaurant, I appreciate the good little restaurant that allows to end (or start) an evening in style.
Then come all the activities related to well-being (Spas, massages, aquagym, yoga ...) which are really the little extra of a top-of-the-range campsite.
The activities of the campsite
For those who have children, this criterion is extremely important because pool games, clubs, sports activities, water parks, competitions and foam parties will contribute to the success of their holidays.
For my part, this is absolutely not a priority criterion. On the other hand, I appreciate that there are activities and places planned for the children because suddenly, they do not play between the chalets which preserves the rest of the "childless" !!!
The safety of the campsite
Ah, there I imagine that you have the mocking smile and thought surely: "oh again an anguished woman who sees the danger everywhere ...".
Well no, I don't have psychosis (I still did Colombia in a backpack !!!) but when I want to relax and really let go, I don't want to think about closing the windows just in case, check if the trunk of the car is properly closed or to bring in the towels before going to bed… So for me, the fact that I could rest with peace of mind was also a criterion for choosing my campsite in South Corsica.
My ideal campsite in the South of Corsica
A little away from the crowds of tourists, the Costa Serena region is perfect for a relaxing stay with more than 30 km of beaches and its many pine forests. Its proximity to major tourist sites in Southern Corsica allow you to combine a seaside holiday with a discovery holiday (see details on tourist office websites).
It is therefore in this region, Marina d'Erba Rossa campsite, that I spent my week in South Corsica at the edge of a magnificent beach, in a quiet area and in the middle of unspoiled nature.
The little extras of this campsite:
- Exceptional setting in a 20 hectare park with direct access to the beach;
- Luxury accommodation in a "Premium" chalet;
- Half-board formula which allowed me to enjoy the good restaurant every day;
- Sauna, hammam, spa… everything was there so that I could take good care of myself!
