Mauritius NORTH COAST - Best hotel on the NORTH COAST

La North Coast and Grand Baie in particular is the most frequented area of to Mauritius and probably the most lively. Indeed, it is the starting point for sea excursions to the northern islands, which of course attracts a large number of tourists. In addition, Grand Bay has beautiful beaches like the well-known Hind hole (see below).

It is on this coast in particular that we can find very good deals on cheap hotels (see my article:  CHEAP HOTELS MAURITIUS ).

This north coast of Mauritius is also very popular because there is a wide variety of restaurants and a lively and festive nightlife.

NORTH COAST MAURITIUS - What to see?

The church of Cap Malheureux

The village is called Cap Malheureux in reference to the many shipwrecks that have taken place on its coasts. Its chapel is the symbol and represents the main attraction for tourists. The view is breathtaking over the Coin de Mire (islet a few km to the North).

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Pamplemousses Garden

Known to botanists around the world for its remarkable collection of exotic plants, this garden stands out for its giant water lilies (victoria amazonica) and its many species of palm trees, I loved this tour and highly recommend it!MAURITIUS MAP NORTH COAST entrance to the Pamplemousses Garden MAP OF MAURITIUS NORTH COAST water lilies in the Pamplemousse Garden

Triolet

It is in Triolet that you can visit the largest Hindu temple on the island: the Maheswarnath Mandir.

Goodlands

The Goodlands market (14 inhabitants) is very lively, especially on Tuesdays and Fridays because of its clothing fair (fabrics, clothes, saris, etc.). For fruits and vegetables, you will have to go there on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

NORTH COAST MAURITIUS - The beaches

Very beautiful beaches can be found in the North of the Island. The best known are those of Trou aux Biches as well as Mount Choisy. The latter is prolonged until Pointe aux Canonniers passing through Grand Baie and finally to the public beach of Pereybere.

You can also discover the private beaches of Casita and Bain Boeuf (turquoise blue waters and breathtaking views of the northern islands) by walking along the rocks located on either side of Péreybère beach.

NORTH COAST MAURITIUS - What activities?

Diving

It is in the North of the Island that you will find the most beautiful diving sites: Coin de Mire, Roche Baleine, Peter Holt's Rock. Other spots are also found at Pointe aux Piments where you can also swim with turtles. And finally, for family dives, the best address will be the Trou aux Biches lagoon.

Kitesurf

Even if the South is better known for the practice of this sport, the North has some good kitesurfing spots, in particular at Cap Malheureux and Anse la Raie, but it all depends on the wind ...

Excursions to the northern islands

Here is one of the most popular attractions in the North of the Island: go and discover these little wonders in a day trip: Coin de Mire, Ile Plate or the islet of Gabriel. The ideal is to sail by Catamaran and you will be spoiled for choice to find a local agency in Grand Baie or even on the internet.

Shopping at Grand Bay and Pamplemousses

In addition to the many shopping centers in Grand Baie and in particular La Croisette, the famous Sunset Boulevard is the address that shopaholics will have to record on their GPS!

For souvenir purchases, you will have to go to Pamplemousses where you can find local products and beautiful artisanal souvenirs (ship models, paintings, jewelry, etc.).

COTE NORD ILE MAURICE - Where to eat?

As for the restaurant, I will only mention one: Camaron Rouge located in Pamplemousses.

So that its taste buds feast, little ant prefers to eat local!

This is a very simple and unassuming tiny restaurant run by a family. You should not go there for the calm, the setting, the decor, the standing… no because there is none of that… You have to go for LES LANGOUSTES !!!  And there, I assure you that you will not regret it.

NORTH COAST MAURITIUS - Best hotel?

Before booking the RIU MORNE (in the South-West of the Island), I had, as usual, prospected and researched the best hotels according to the coasts. Here is the one I spotted for the northern part: the famous Royal Palm Beachcomber Mauritius

So little ant is looking for a palace in the North of the Island,

it will be the Royal Palm and not the Campanile!

Indeed, it is a discreet but renowned address shared by a privileged few ... and little ant knows that it's not for nothing ...

To understand it, I let you discover an article from the blog of the famous gastronome Gilles PUDLOWSKI: Confirmed review

In addition, Noted 5/5 on TripAdvisor, the customer reviews are more than complimentary: fabulous, exceptional, ideal, magnificent, superb, a true paradise...

This is why I will say quite simply that it is the BEST HOTEL on the North Coast of Mauritius.

BEST MAURITIUS NORTH COAST HOTEL

I'm not going to list all of its advantages and all of its amenities… since it has EVERYTHING (elegant style, impeccable service, gourmet cuisine, spa, swimming pool, tennis…).

But, I want to say that for me the main asset of this hotel is its location. Indeed it is ideally located near Grand Bay facing a superb turquoise lagoon ...

How to describe Paradise? Little ant don't know

but she's sure it's here!

  1. July-August is not the most favorable period for a stay in Mauritius but it is still playable. Temperatures can range from 24 to 28C °, the water temperature will still be between 21 and 25 ° C. The evenings are often cooler and you may have more wind. On the other hand, theoretically you should suffer less thunderstorms… I think that for a stay in July-August, the West coast will be the least exposed to the winds.

  2. Hello,
Very interesting your site and all these recommendations, it comforts me in the idea of going to Mauritius! On the other hand, we are only talking about going there in winter, but I would like to go there in summer, in August, it is the only time of the year when we can go 2 weeks
consecutive. Can you confirm to me that it is feasible? and above all on which coast to go to take full advantage of the climate, beaches and diving?
    Thanks in advance.
    cordially
