You will enjoy a long weekend in Corsica and consider a 2-day tour in South Corsica...
Discover my itinerary for a road trip on the road most beautiful beaches in southern Corsica that some call the most beautiful beaches of France … Be careful, however, not to offend the spirits… We all agree that the beaches of the North Corsica are also among the most beautiful !!!
In short, before going into the details of the itinerary, I just want to clarify that this 2-day tour in South Corsica is a simple model that I share with Internet users in order to give them an idea they can use for their own road trip. It's up to you to make good use of it!
South Corsica in 2 days - Where to rent a car?
Of course, you can hire a car when you arrive at the airport, but for added peace of mind, it is best to book it in advance online. Thus, you can compare the offers and you will be guaranteed to have the vehicle chosen on the scheduled date. If you are arriving by ferry, you can also book your vehicle in advance as rental agencies are usually located near the ferry docks.
South Corsica in 2 days - My must-see list
When we plan to go to Corsica, we hope to be able to see as many sites as possible but, given the time it takes to travel there (especially in the summer), we must anticipate and plan a feasible program.
So, because it is impossible to discover everything I would have wanted in just 2 days, I made a list of the must-sees in southern Corsica that I planned for my road trip.
- Ajaccio
- Propriano
- Bonifacio
- The Lavezzi Islands
- Rondinara Beach
- Palombaggia Beach
- Porto-Vecchio
- Roccapina Beach
South Corsica in 2 days - Map of the itinerary of the circuit
For an overview, you will find below the map of my road trip around the South Corsica in 2 days. Of course, if you have a few more days, this tour will be even more enjoyable because you will have more time to enjoy the sites and the beautiful beaches of the South. However, for an optimized weekend road trip, it's playable!
2 days in South Corsica - Day 1 program
Circuit South Corsica - Ajaccio
To carry out this road trip, I advise you to leave Ajaccio very early in the morning after having visited it quickly in 1 hour or 1:30. The best will be to take a short walk in the Ajaccio old town. You can walk through its colorful streets, visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the imposing citadel and the Tino-Rossi marina.

Then without delay, you will take the road for a very long journey towards the South (140 km Ajaccio-Bonifacio road).
Circuit South Corsica - Propriano
You can take a first step at Propriano after a 1h30 drive. Maybe a little coffee in this pretty little seaside resort located in the heart of the Gulf of Valinco? Then you will continue the road through Sartène and will arrive in Bonifacio after a 1h30 drive from Propriano.
Just a small address if you want to buy good and real Corsican charcuterie:

Circuit South Corsica - Bonifacio
We have finally arrived at theextreme south of Corsicaor a Bonifacio perched on its limestone cliffs! If you rode well and left very early, you will likely arrive around lunchtime. Stroll through the Citadel and have a quick bite to eat on the port of Bonifacio.

South Corsica - Lavezzi Islands tour
The archipelago of Lavezzi Islands to the south of Bonifacio are characterized by landscapes of granite blocks placed on paradisiacal beaches where the sea shelters the seabed of any beauty.
To enjoy the idyllic beaches of the Lavezzi Islands, you should plan to spend half a day there. Only 10 km from Bonifacio (30 minutes by boat), you can choose to:
- take a cruise (Lavessi Islands, Island of the billionaires of Cavallo, turquoise lagoon of Piantarella, caves…);
- or take a maritime shuttle that will drop you directly on an island in the archipelago: theLavezzu Island.
This is the company SPMB (Société des Promenades en Mer de Bonifacio) which offers these shuttles to the Lavezzi Islands. No possibility to book in advance, you have to go to the ticket office (Tel 04 95 10 97 50) next to the free parking for customers (Quai Jérôme Comparetti).

On the way back, take some pictures of Bonifacio at nightfall, it's simply magical!

Weekend in South Corsica - Hotel in Bonifacio
Here is my crush on the Citadel of Bonifacio: theGenovese hotel. In fact, it has everything:
- ideal geographical location;
- Panoramic view ;
- Outdoor pool ;
- Good restaurant ;
- WIFI connection ;
- et free private parking !!!

2 days in South Corsica - Day 2 program
Road trip in South Corsica - Rondinara Bay
Early departure towards Porto-Vecchio for a 1er swimming stop at Rondinara beach. Only 18 km from Bonifacio, in a seashell-shaped gulf, the bay of Rondinara beach is a pure marvel!
Road trip in South Corsica - Palombaggia beach
About twenty kilometers from Rondinara (1 hour drive) is another essential beach in southern Corsica: the Palonbaggia beach. It's one of my favorites but out of season because otherwise there are crowds! Fine sand, turquoise waters, this beach has everything of a postcard and offers as a bonus a panorama of the Cerbicale Islands. You can enjoy it until lunchtime.

Road trip in South Corsica - Porto-Vecchio
A short tour of Porto Vecchio, an ancient Genoese citadel, perched on a hill overlooking the sea.
To visit it quickly, you can take the tourist train or simply go up in 15 minutes to the Citadel and visit the old town.
For lunch, I can only recommend the only restaurant I know in Porto Vecchio: the Alta Rocca restaurant (6 Rue Aspirant Michelin). In the citadel, he offers local cuisine with of course Corsican cold meats and cheeses!
Road trip in South Corsica - Roccapina beach
Returning to Sartène to retrace our steps towards Ajaccio, we go through the Lion of Roccapina (about 50 km from Porto Vecchio). It is a rock in the shape of a lion that you can climb to have a view of the sublime Roccapina beach. A short swim and a nap in the sun, then we take the wheel again for a 2 hour drive and arrive in Ajaccio in the evening.

Weekend in South Corsica - Hotel in Ajaccio
For your last night in Corsica, I recommend thehotel Kallisté. Very well located in the city center (400 meters from the casino and Saint-François beach), it offers all the comfort and services needed for a weekend. The bonus is its private underground parking!
